Brett & Taylor Smith
Founders of Grace Recovery
our story
In 2020, Brett and Taylor returned to Cape Girardeau after spending ten years in San Diego with a vision to plant a church. In April 2021, they opened the doors of Grace Church, and since then, thousands of lives have been touched and transformed.
That same year, while launching their new church, Brett and Taylor began volunteering with One City’s Work Life program, where they built relationships and walked alongside individuals in recovery. Their involvement deepened their passion for serving those battling addiction. In June 2021, Taylor stepped into the role of Executive Director at One City, continuing to expand their community impact.
Later that fall, during a church outreach event, Brett and Taylor met Kyle Wills, who is now a close friend and board member. Kyle was directing a program that helped men transition from recovery programs back into daily life. Witnessing the life-changing impact of that work, Brett and Taylor knew that one day, they wanted to launch something similar in Cape Girardeau.
Grace Church quickly became home to a growing recovery community. In March 2025, the church launched a weekly recovery meeting to provide ongoing community, hope, and support. Shortly after, Brett and Taylor sensed that it was time for a new chapter—a transition from One City into the birth of Grace Recovery.
Grace Recovery is built on the foundation of faith and holistic healing. While deeply rooted in Christian values, it fully embraces the importance of modern medicine, trauma-informed counseling, and other proven recovery methods—integrating them with the transformative power of faith.
On November 1, 2025, Grace Recovery will officially launch. While the vision for the future is expansive, the first priorities are to continue the Work Life Program, weekly recovery meetings, and to open Freedom House, a transitional home for women seeking a fresh start.
Brett and Taylor’s heart is to see every person struggling with addiction become sober, free, and full of life—living out their God-given purpose. Over the years, they’ve witnessed countless stories of transformation and freedom, and they are more passionate than ever to see even more lives changed.
The entire Grace Recovery team is filled with expectation for the impact their programs, classes, and transitional homes will have on individuals and families throughout the community.
